Crystal Palace have opened negotiations with RC Lens manager Pierre Sage over their vacant head coach role. The Premier League side are searching for a replacement after Oliver Glasner left the club at the end of last season.
The Eagles have held initial talks with the 47-year-old Frenchman. They have also made contact with Lens to arrange a financial package to release him from his contract.
Sage took charge of the Ligue 1 club in June last year. During his time there, he led the team to a second-place finish in the league. He also guided them to their first-ever Coupe de France title, beating Nice in the final.
Palace turned their attention to Sage after failing to sign their top choice. They had offered the job to Andoni Iraola, but the coach decided to join Liverpool on a two-year contract instead.
Other candidates on the club’s list included Frank Lampard, Kieran McKenna and Sean Dyche. However, Sage is now the leading option to take over at Selhurst Park.
