Harambee Starlets have sent a clear message to their opponents before the Africa Women’s Cup of Nations. The Kenyan women’s national team hammered Lesotho 6-0 in a friendly match in Zambia on Tuesday.
Coach Beldine Odemba saw her players produce an excellent display. The team showed strong teamwork and finished their chances well.
The goals came early. Violet Nanjala opened the scoring in the 11th minute. She received a perfect pass from Eglay Mukhwana before slotting the ball home. Just three minutes later, Terry made it 2-0. She scored from a brilliant free-kick by Mwanahalima Adam.
The pressure continued. Fasila Adhiambo added the third goal in the 27th minute. She turned in a cross from Terry Engesha. Before the break, Mukhwana scored herself. She found the net in the 42nd minute after a pass from Nanjala. The half ended with Kenya leading 4-0.
Odemba made five changes at the start of the second half. She wanted to give more players time on the pitch. The new players kept up the momentum. Mukhwana grabbed her second goal in the 65th minute to extend the lead to 5-0.
The coach made three more substitutions in the 72nd minute. Catherine Khaemba came on as one of the replacements. She made an immediate impact. Just two minutes after entering the field, she scored in the 74th minute. This sealed the 6-0 victory.
The result proves the Starlets are in excellent form ahead of the tournament. The squad showed great attacking power and plenty of depth in all positions.
