Wolverhampton Wanderers have moved quickly to strengthen their squad following relegation by securing the signature of experienced full-back Kieran Trippier. The 35-year-old defender joins the Midlands club on a free transfer after his contract with Newcastle United expired at the season’s end.
Trippier has committed to a two-year deal at Molineux. The right-back made 160 appearances for Newcastle following his arrival from Atletico Madrid in January 2022. He also earned 54 caps for England between 2017 and 2024.
Head coach Rob Edwards welcomed the veteran’s arrival, stressing the need for leadership qualities. “We understand what was missing this past season and what we require going forward,” Edwards stated. “We need experience, resilience and strong characters. Trippier provides all of these qualities.”
The club are also working to re-sign former forward Raul Jimenez. The 35-year-old Mexican striker appears set to leave Fulham when his current deal expires at the end of the month. Fulham listed him among their departing players earlier this week.
Jimenez previously enjoyed a successful spell at Wolves, netting 57 times in 166 matches between 2018 and 2023. His 40 Premier League goals remain a club record for the top flight.
Negotiations for his return are underway, though Jimenez is currently focused on international duty. He joins the Mexico squad as they prepare to host the World Cup, with their opening fixture against South Africa scheduled for Thursday.
Wolves finished last season at the bottom of the Premier League table, resulting in their demotion to the Championship. The arrivals of seasoned professionals like Trippier signal the club’s intent to construct a competitive team capable of challenging for promotion.
