SV Elversberg have secured the services of defender Luca Sirch from Kaiserslautern on a free transfer. The 27-year-old has signed a three-year contract that will keep him at the club until 2029, the newly-promoted German side confirmed on Tuesday.
The acquisition represents a significant step up for Sirch, who only broke into professional football two seasons ago. Prior to joining Kaiserslautern in 2023, the Augsburg-native had never played beyond Germany’s fourth-tier Regionalliga. His rapid development saw him make 60 appearances in the 2. Bundesliga, contributing to 13 goals and helping Torsten Lieberknecht’s side mount promotion challenges.
Versatility key to recruitment
Elversberg earned their first-ever promotion to Germany’s top-flight last season, beating Sirch’s former employers to secure the coveted spot. The club had already been active in the transfer market, earlier recruiting wingers Maurice Krattenmacher from Bayern Munich and Cole Campbell from Borussia Dortmund before turning their attention to defensive reinforcements.
Sporting director Christian Weber highlighted Sirch’s adaptability as a crucial factor in the deal. “By committing to Luca Sirch, we have managed to increase the flexibility and variation possibilities within our squad with a very versatile player,” Weber said. “With his dynamics and his good right foot, he brings in elements that will enrich our game.”
Sirch himself expressed excitement about joining the ambitious project. “The past two years have given me a very good impression of Elversberg,” he told the club’s website. “The team stands for cohesion, energy and a clear idea on the pitch. Squad changes continue
The arrival of Sirch coincides with the departure of Carlo Sickinger, who has left Elversberg by mutual agreement to join 2. Bundesliga side Darmstadt. The defensive midfielder’s exit marks the latest adjustment to the squad as the club prepares for life in the higher division.
