The Italy international, who has endured a frustrating spell since arriving from Juventus, insisted he is focused solely on proving his worth at Anfield rather than seeking a return to Serie A.
Chiesa told reporters including The Athletic that he currently feels content on Merseyside. He expressed affection for the supporters and surroundings, adding that he is striving to secure opportunities under the new regime. His sole focus remains Merseyside for now.
Fresh start after Slot departure
The 28-year-old managed just nine starts across two seasons under former boss Arne Slot, who has since been dismissed and replaced by Andoni Iraola. Chiesa acknowledged his stop-start beginning but remains optimistic about the latest chapter.
He admitted previous seasons offered renewed hope that failed to materialise, with opportunities depending on the former manager’s selections. Chiesa accepted those tactical decisions without complaint, stressing that the appointment of Iraola offers another opportunity to impress.
Striker experiment
Chiesa revealed he operated as a striker during the victory over Sunderland, an unfamiliar role after spending his entire career on the flank. He welcomed the positional change, stating he is willing to adapt despite being deployed predominantly as a wide player throughout his career.
Italy recall delayed
The forward has not represented Italy since EURO 2024, declining call-ups until he secures regular minutes at club level. He confirmed discussions with national team coach Gattuso took place last season, but fitness concerns prevented his return.
Chiesa explained that his body was not prepared for international duty during previous conversations with the management team.
