Stade Brestois 29 have completed the permanent signing of Belgian midfielder Joseph Nonge from Turkish Süper Lig side Kocaelispor. The Ligue 1 club have invested an estimated €600,000 to secure the 21-year-old’s services.
Nonge has put pen to paper on a three-season contract with the Breton outfit, with the agreement incorporating an option for a one-year extension. Should the club choose to trigger that clause, the midfielder could remain at the Stade Francis-Le Blé until 2030, tying him to the club for the prime years of his early career.
Route through Italy and beyond
The player arrives in France with a CV that spans multiple European leagues. He began his footballing education in the esteemed academy of RSC Anderlecht, where he developed through the youth ranks before attracting interest from abroad.
Italian giants Juventus secured his signature in 2021, bringing him into their system as a teenager. However, first-team opportunities in Serie A proved limited, prompting Nonge to seek experience elsewhere. He departed on loan to ESTAC Troyes during 2024, gaining valuable minutes in the French top flight, before completing the season with a spell at Swiss club Servette FC.
Following the conclusion of his Juventus contract, the midfielder made the switch to Turkey as a free agent, joining Kocaelispor for a single campaign prior to this permanent transfer to Brest.
Low-risk addition for Brest
The move represents a calculated gamble for Eric Roy’s side as they bolster their midfield options ahead of the new season. The modest transfer fee reflects Nonge’s potential rather than his current standing, offering the club a player with significant upside if he can find consistency.
For Nonge, the transfer provides an opportunity to settle at a single club after several seasons of transient movement involving loans and short-term stays. He will aim to establish himself as a regular starter in Ligue 1, converting the raw promise that took him from Anderlecht to Juventus into tangible performances on the Brittany coast.
