Chalobah commits to Como until 2031
Trevoh Chalobah has ended an 18-year association with Chelsea by completing a permanent transfer to Serie A side Como. The Italy-based club paid €30 million plus add-ons for the England international, who has signed a six-year contract running until June 2031.
The 27-year-old defender arrived in Italy on Wednesday to undergo medical tests before the deal was formally announced on Sunday. He chose Como despite interest from elsewhere in Serie A, with Inter having previously considered a move before withdrawing over the fee.
Fabregas persuasion seals deal
Como manager Cesc Fabregas proved instrumental in securing Chalobah’s signature. The pair previously crossed paths at Stamford Bridge during Fabregas’s playing days, and the former Arsenal and Barcelona midfielder made personal contact to push the transfer forward.
“The call with Cesc was really good, he showed how much he wanted me,” Chalobah told the Como website. “Knowing Cesc, obviously, he’s been at Chelsea, and I trained with him when I was younger. Now obviously to play under him will be amazing. For sure, I’ll give it my all.”
Fabregas highlighted Chalobah’s winning pedigree as crucial for the club’s development. “Trevoh is an important signing for us and a player who represents the level of ambition we have at this club,” he said. “He has competed and won at the highest level, but he is also hungry to begin a new chapter and continue improving. He gives us strength, speed and personality in defence, as well as the technical quality to build from the back.”
Chelsea career and international honours
Chalobah joined Chelsea’s academy at eight years old and progressed through the ranks to make over 150 competitive appearances for the first team. His trophy haul includes the 2021 UEFA Super Cup, FIFA Club World Cup and Conference League.
The centre-back also featured for England at the 2026 World Cup, helping the national team secure a bronze medal before departing for Italy. He previously gained senior experience through loan spells at Ipswich Town, Huddersfield Town and Lorient.
In an emotional farewell posted on social media, Chalobah wrote: “An 8-year-old boy walked through those doors. A man walks out. Dream lived. Purpose fulfilled.” He continued: “After 18 years, it’s time to say goodbye to Chelsea. I arrived as a nine-year-old with a dream, and I leave as a man who’s lived that dream in ways I never imagined. To every teammate, coach, staff member, and supporter, thank you for shaping me.”
The move represents a significant statement of intent from Como as they prepare for the new Serie A season.
