Juventus have completed the signing of goalkeeper Guglielmo Vicario from Tottenham Hotspur on a loan deal that runs until June 2027. The Serie A club confirmed the move includes an option to buy the 29-year-old for €8 million, with a further €2 million available in performance-related add-ons.

The transfer ends a lengthy search for a new goalkeeper that dominated much of Juventus’ summer activity. Inconsistent displays from Michele Di Gregorio forced the club to explore alternatives, with reports suggesting they considered ambitious moves for Liverpool’s Alisson Becker and Aston Villa’s Emiliano Martínez before turning to Vicario to solve their immediate needs.

Return to familiar territory

Vicario’s arrival marks a homecoming for the Italian, who began his professional journey in the Udinese youth ranks. He subsequently gained valuable experience with Venezia, Perugia, Cagliari and Empoli, where he made 69 Serie A appearances and established his reputation as a dependable shot-stopper.

His move to Tottenham in 2023 saw him make 117 appearances across all competitions and lift the Europa League trophy during the 2024/25 season. That spell in English football has added an international dimension to his game, which Juventus hope will bring stability to their defensive line ahead of the new campaign.

Financial structure and squad depth

The loan arrangement offers Juventus flexibility, with no obligation to purchase Vicario permanently at this stage. Should the club activate the option next year, the total fee could reach €10 million. Mattia Perin and Carlo Pinsoglio remain as alternatives in manager Luciano Spalletti’s goalkeeping department.

Juventus open their Serie A campaign against Frosinone on 23 August. The club welcomed their new signing with a brief statement: “Welcome to Juventus, Guglielmo!”
