Bayern Munich defender Nathaniel Brown has expressed his delight at playing in an attacking midfield role after scoring in the club’s 2-1 Supercup victory over Borussia Dortmund.
The 23-year-old, who normally operates as a full-back, has featured as a No.10 in three matches this season, including appearances against Aston Villa and Heidenheim prior to the weekend triumph.
Brown revealed he had anticipated the positional switch after training in the role the day before facing Dortmund. “I had already featured there against Aston Villa,” he explained to Sport1. “I also played there against Heidenheim. The day before the Dortmund match, I also trained in that position, so I expected to play there.”
Adapting to attack
Describing his approach to the unfamiliar position, Brown highlighted his ability to find space in dangerous areas. “I think I’m a player who is smart on the pitch,” he told Sport1. “I look for the free space between the sixes and Harry. It’s very cool.”
The goal against Dortmund came as a welcome surprise for the defender, who admitted he is not a regular scorer. Speaking to Absolut Bayern, he said: “New position, new style. I’m not someone who scores every game. Celebrating the goal with my teammates was incredible and very nice.”
Title ambitions
The Supercup success marked Brown’s first trophy since joining the Bavarian giants. However, the player has already set his sights on further silverware.
“When you represent a big team, you want to win titles,” he stated. “That was my first, but I want to keep going.”
Brown’s versatility provides Bayern with additional tactical options as they compete across multiple competitions this season. His successful transition from defence to attack during the Supercup victory demonstrates his adaptability within the squad.
