Inter have formally presented Dario Baccin as their new director, tasking him with replacing Piero Ausilio following the latter’s departure after 28 years at the Serie A club. The announcement came on a day of deep significance for the Nerazzurri, coinciding with the 20th anniversary of the death of club legend Giacinto Facchetti.

Inter president Giuseppe Marotta oversaw the presentation, which took place ahead of Cristian Chivu’s press conference. Marotta described the appointment as a source of “great pride” and praised Baccin’s character, stating, “He represents great human values. We welcome him,” according to TuttoMercatoWeb. The president’s remarks framed the transition as a moment of renewal rooted in familiar faces.

Baccin honours Facchetti and predecessor

Speaking to the media for the first time in his new position, Baccin acknowledged the emotional weight of the occasion. “It was my duty to greet you in my new official role, and doing so today has an even greater meaning because it is the 20th anniversary of Giacinto Facchetti’s death,” he said.

The new director also expressed gratitude to the club’s ownership and paid tribute to Ausilio, who had mentored him during their years working together. “I am grateful to the ownership that decided to give me this role. It is a sign of esteem, and I am grateful for this opportunity,” Baccin remarked. He added, “If I am here today with moral serenity, it is also thanks to the discussions I have had with Piero in recent days.”

Baccin’s promotion represents continuity for Inter. The long-serving official had worked closely alongside Ausilio for several years before stepping into the senior post, giving him existing knowledge of the club’s inner workings. He also underlined his bond with Chivu, explaining, “Chivu and I have been linked by a relationship of many years in the youth sector.”

Ausilio’s era ends after nine trophies

Ausilio’s exit closes a remarkable chapter for the club. During his lengthy spell, he oversaw a period that brought nine major trophies to Inter, including three Serie A titles. Baccin now inherits a structure built firmly on those foundations.

With established relationships across both the senior and youth departments, Baccin’s appointment signals that Inter are seeking stability and internal cohesion as they begin life without one of their longest-serving modern executives. The challenge ahead will be to maintain the standards set during Ausilio’s trophy-laden reign.
