Paris FC midfielder Maxime Lopez has clearly stated the club’s ambition for the current Ligue 1 season: to secure qualification for European competition. This declaration follows a strong start to their campaign, which currently sees them sitting second in the league table.
A Promising Start to the Season
The Parisian club has enjoyed a significant upturn in form after an initial draw. Their season began with a 0-0 stalemate away to newly promoted ESTAC Troyes. However, Paris FC quickly found their stride, securing back-to-back victories. They impressively beat OGC Nice 3-0 before travelling to the Vélodrome to defeat Olympique de Marseille 3-2 in a notable away performance.
Lopez, speaking to RMC Sport show Rothen S’Enflamme, outlined the club’s clear objective. He expressed that while qualifying for the Champions League would be “incredible,” the team would also welcome a spot in the Europa League or Europa Conference League. This ambition marks a significant shift from their previous season, where, in their first year back in the top flight, the club faced relegation fears, even leading to the mid-season dismissal of manager Stéphane Gilli.
Ambition Backed by Experience and Resources
Under the guidance of manager Liam Rosenior, Paris FC appears to be looking firmly up the table. Rosenior brings valuable experience, having previously guided RC Strasbourg Alsace to European qualification. The club’s aspirations are further bolstered by the financial backing of the Arnault family, providing them with resources that many of their rivals for European places may not possess.
With their current position and a clear statement of intent from a key player, Paris FC is setting its sights high for the Ligue 1 season, aiming to establish themselves among France’s European contenders.
