Crystal Palace chairman Steve Parish has publicly praised manager Pierre Sage, acknowledging the “remarkable work” done by the Frenchman and his staff in his first two months at the helm. Sage, who succeeded Oliver Glasner, has navigated a challenging period since taking charge of the Eagles.
The Premier League campaign began with two defeats, adding to the complexities of a fractured pre-season and the late return of several players from the World Cup. Parish noted the significant adjustments Sage has had to make, adapting to a new country, a new club, and a different way of life, with his family still primarily based in France.
Navigating Early Challenges
Despite the initial hurdles, including the upheaval of the transfer window and integrating new players, Parish expressed a sense of stability at the club. He remarked that while the team remains vigilant, the overall feeling is positive. Sage’s record after seven matches stands at three wins, three defeats, and one draw. Considering the circumstances, Parish described this as “by no means a bad start,” commending Sage for how well he has handled everything.
The chairman highlighted the learning curve for any manager new to the English league, stating that Sage has “done really well” to find his feet. He also pointed out that the club was proud of its players participating in the World Cup, even though it complicated pre-season preparations.

Parish also took the opportunity to dismiss rumours of internal tensions, particularly concerning the handling of certain players like Jaydee Canvot. He stated that he cannot control gossip but affirmed that everyone at the club is “pulling in the same direction” and focused on moving forward together for a successful season.
Crucially, Parish emphasised that the players “enjoy” playing under Sage. While acknowledging that managers receive input from various sources, he underscored that they ultimately make the decisions, and Sage’s choices “look like good ones.”
