Hertha BSC extended their remarkable run in the 2. Bundesliga, securing a hard-fought 2-1 victory over Greuther Fürth. The win marks Hertha’s seventh consecutive league triumph, solidifying their position at the top of the table.
Manager Stefan Leitl’s side entered the fixture as favourites, having won all six of their opening league matches, while Fürth had collected six points from their first six games. Playing in front of their home supporters, Hertha aimed to dictate proceedings and continue their outstanding form.
The first half saw Hertha make a positive start, though Fürth remained competitive, looking to frustrate the league leaders and exploit counter-attacking opportunities. Oluwaseun Adewumi had the best chance for the hosts, but Fürth goalkeeper Florian Hellstern produced a fine double save to keep the scores level heading into the break.
The second half brought more drama. Just after the hour mark, Fürth thought they had broken the deadlock through Omar Sillah, but the goal was ultimately disallowed for offside. Hertha finally found their breakthrough in the 65th minute when Mads Pedersen netted to give the home side a crucial advantage.
Hertha strengthened their grip on the contest in the 80th minute, with Paul Seguin doubling their lead and seemingly putting the result beyond doubt. However, Fürth refused to give up, making the closing stages uncomfortable for the hosts when Jannos Heuer scored in the 90th minute to reduce the deficit to 2-1. Despite the late goal, Hertha managed the remaining moments to preserve their advantage and secure another victory.
This result further strengthens Hertha BSC’s position at the summit of the 2. Bundesliga, establishing them as early contenders for promotion. For Greuther Fürth, the late response offered little consolation as they left Berlin empty-handed, now needing to regroup to improve their standing in the lower reaches of the table.
