Paris Saint-Germain manager Luis Enrique has revealed he feels an increased level of pressure, despite his remarkable success at the French club. The Spaniard, who recently signed a contract extension with PSG until 2030, acknowledged the heightened expectations as the team targets an unprecedented third consecutive UEFA Champions League title.
A Legacy of Trophies
Luis Enrique has firmly established himself as the most successful manager in Paris Saint-Germain’s history since taking over from Christophe Galtier. He has guided the club to two UEFA Champions League triumphs and secured the Ligue 1 title in each of his three seasons at the helm. This consistent success has, however, brought its own unique demands.
Speaking to the club’s official channels, Luis Enrique emphasised his drive for continued achievement. “Now there is even more pressure on me to show that I am ready to keep going and that I want to win many more trophies with Paris Saint-Germain,” he stated. He also reflected on the fan reaction, adding, “I am not calmer or more relaxed simply because people tell me they are very happy. Parisians often tell me: ‘You have changed our lives’, but we have to be careful not to exaggerate the importance of football. There are many things in life that are more important.”
Current Form and Upcoming Challenges
Despite their historical achievements under Luis Enrique, PSG have experienced a mixed start to the current Ligue 1 season. The club currently sits sixth in the league standings, though they are on a positive trajectory with a three-game winning streak in domestic competition.
The focus now shifts to a crucial UEFA Champions League encounter against Manchester City. Luis Enrique remains resolute in his approach, drawing motivation from within. “Defeats are precisely what force us to question ourselves. I do not need to look at other coaches for motivation. I have no intention of trying to improve my record or my CV simply to surpass them,” he added, highlighting his commitment to continuous improvement and internal drive.
