1. FC Köln winger Said El Mala has committed his future to the Bundesliga club, signing a long-term contract extension that will keep him at the RheinEnergieStadion until 2031.
However, despite this significant new deal, the German club has indicated they are not ruling out a potential sale of the 20-year-old talent. Thomas Kessler, Köln’s sporting managing director, confirmed the club’s stance, stating that they would be prepared to discuss a transfer should a prominent club make an approach.
Köln’s Stance on El Mala’s Future
Kessler’s comments suggest a pragmatic approach from 1. FC Köln, balancing player development with potential financial opportunities. While the club is open to discussions with top-tier suitors, their immediate plan involves El Mala remaining with the squad for the current season.
“If a top club calls at some point, we’d be happy to discuss a transfer,” Kessler reportedly told German media. “But until then, it’s primarily up to Said himself how far his journey takes him. I have no doubt that he has what it takes to develop into an international top player.”
Despite the intention for El Mala to stay, Kessler also acknowledged that a move during the upcoming winter transfer window cannot be entirely dismissed. “You should never categorically rule anything out in football,” he added, though he reiterated the club’s firm planning for El Mala to complete the season with them.
Premier League Interest
Reports suggest that there continues to be a market for El Mala in the Premier League. Several English clubs have previously been linked with the promising winger, indicating sustained interest in his services.
El Mala’s contract extension provides Köln with a strong negotiating position, ensuring they are well-compensated if a transfer materialises. For now, the focus remains on his development within the club, with the possibility of a future move to a major European side still on the horizon.
