Roma midfielder Lorenzo Pellegrini has stated that his primary focus is on achieving his best physical condition, following a recent contract extension that will keep him at the club until the end of the 2026-27 season.
Speaking at a pre-match press conference ahead of Roma’s Champions League fixture against Slovan Bratislava, Pellegrini addressed his current situation and his decision to remain with the Giallorossi.
Commitment to Roma Amidst Summer Interest
Pellegrini confirmed that he received offers from other clubs during the summer transfer window. However, he expressed his happiness at having stayed with Roma, a club where he has spent the majority of his career, apart from a two-year spell at Sassuolo between 2015 and 2017.
The former club captain signed a new one-year contract with Roma in August, extending his stay beyond what would have been the final months of his previous deal. This agreement secures his future at the Stadio Olimpico for the next few seasons.
Focus on Regaining Full Fitness
Despite the contract extension, Pellegrini’s season has seen him make three appearances so far, all coming from the bench. These opportunities include two outings in Serie A and one in the Champions League against Real Madrid.
Pellegrini emphasised that his sole objective is to return to his peak physical condition. This focus suggests a determination to earn a more consistent starting role and contribute significantly to Roma’s campaign after a period where he was not at the same physical level as his teammates at the start of the season.
His dedication to fitness underscores his commitment to the club and his desire to perform at the highest level for Roma, as they navigate their domestic and European challenges.
