Juventus striker Randal Kolo Muani has addressed the ‘tension’ within the club’s dressing room following their recent 3-0 Serie A defeat to Lazio. The French forward confirmed that players held a constructive discussion to clear the air, describing it as a family working through problems.
Coach Luciano Spalletti has confirmed that Kolo Muani will start alongside Nick Woltemade when Juventus host French side Rennes in the Europa League Round 3 on Thursday. Kolo Muani expressed comfort playing with Woltemade, stating that he is at ease playing with any teammate and that the squad works on the coach’s instructions while also having the freedom to take responsibility.
Addressing Recent Struggles
The dressing room meeting took place after the significant loss to Lazio, a result that saw captain Gleison Bremer openly criticise his teammates. Kolo Muani indicated that Bremer explained his words during the meeting, and the team accepted them, highlighting a strong relationship within the squad.
Spalletti encouraged players to speak ‘at length’ during the discussion, stating he remained silent to gather as much information as possible. He noted that the players’ comments confirmed their honesty and professionalism, showing a willingness to offer more and bring greater variety to their play.
While Juventus have maintained a perfect record in the Europa League, winning both their opening games and accumulating six points, their domestic form has been less consistent. The Bianconeri currently sit 8th in Serie A with 11 points from seven matches, having lost two of those fixtures.
Europa League Challenge
Looking ahead to the Europa League encounter, Spalletti described Rennes as a ‘strong’ team, highlighting their fast attackers and top scorer, Lepaul. He noted that Rennes are having a good season, currently sixth in Ligue 1 and just one point below the top spot, which brings enthusiasm to their side. Spalletti views the match as a ‘maturity test’ for Juventus, emphasising the need for a decisive attitude.
For Kolo Muani, who previously played for Ligue 1 clubs PSG and Nantes, facing Rennes holds a unique significance. He described it as a ‘different kind of match’ and expressed his hope that a strong performance could aid his return to the national team. Juventus will be aiming to secure their third consecutive Europa League victory to solidify their position in the competition.
