Como coach Cesc Fabregas has confirmed he was the source of the Como shirt recently seen worn by Lionel Messi’s son, Ciro. The image of Ciro Messi in the Italian club’s colours quickly went viral on social media after being shared by his mother, Antonela Roccuzzo, prompting Fabregas to reveal the story behind it.

Speaking on Tuesday, the former Barcelona midfielder clarified the origin of the shirt. “I was the one who gave him that shirt,” Fabregas stated. He further elaborated on the deep connection between the two footballing families, adding: “Our wives, children, and I have been close friends all our lives. I’ve sent them lots of Como shirts.”

A Personal Touch

The shirt worn by Ciro Messi prominently features ‘Fabregas’ and the number ‘4’ on the back, indicating it was a personal gift from the coach. This detail also dispelled some initial reports in Italian media suggesting Ciro might have chosen the shirt due to an admiration for young Argentine talent Nico Paz.

Fabregas and Messi share a long-standing friendship, having played together for several years at Barcelona. During their time at Camp Nou, they featured in 123 matches together, with Fabregas contributing to trophy wins including a La Liga title in the 2012-13 season and a UEFA Super Cup in 2011.

Como’s European Fixture

The revelation comes as Fabregas prepares his Como side for a significant fixture. The Italian club is scheduled to host English giants Manchester United in the Champions League Round 3 later today. This match highlights Fabregas’s current role as a coach, bringing his team into the European spotlight.
