Roma manager Gian Piero Gasperini has addressed the recent touchline outburst by Massimiliano Allegri, describing the way it was reported as ‘unfortunate’. Gasperini also provided a hopeful update on star attacker Paulo Dybala’s potential return for the upcoming Serie A fixture against Cagliari.

The Giallorossi are set to host Cagliari at the Stadio Olimpico in a midweek Serie A clash. The match comes just days after Roma’s dramatic 3-3 draw against Napoli, a game that saw Napoli head coach Massimiliano Allegri sent off for his fiery reaction to a late equaliser. Allegri subsequently received a two-match ban for his actions.

Dybala’s Potential Return and Other Injury Updates

Gasperini confirmed that there is a possibility of Paulo Dybala rejoining the squad for Tuesday night’s match. “In terms of recovery, the only one that might be possible is Dybala, we’ll try things out this afternoon to see if we can have him with us on the bench. That in itself would be a positive,” Gasperini stated, expressing confidence.

Regarding other squad members, Gasperini provided updates on Manu Kone and goalkeeper Mile Svilar. Kone is considered unlikely to return before the upcoming international break. However, Svilar could potentially be back in action by Thursday or Friday, with a possibility of featuring next week, perhaps in Manchester or against Sassuolo in the final game before the break.

Allegri’s Outburst and Roma’s Form

When asked about Allegri’s remarks made in the tunnel after the Napoli draw, Gasperini stated he had not heard them directly, only through reports. He reiterated that the reporting of the incident was “certainly unfortunate.”

Roma enters the Cagliari match on an impressive run, having gone 15 matches unbeaten in Serie A. This streak dates back to an early April defeat against Inter. Gasperini emphasised the team’s continuity and the ongoing goal to improve. “Our goal is to continue improving and there’s never a limit,” he noted, highlighting the squad’s growth and the club’s proactive approach.

Player Development: Soule and Lulli

Gasperini also touched upon the development of young talents. He discussed Soule’s progress, noting that the player had a period sidelined due to pubalgia but has since returned strongly. Gasperini praised Soule’s versatility, playing in multiple roles across the right, left, and central attacking midfield positions. He also highlighted Soule’s recent call-up by Argentina as an encouraging sign.

Regarding Emanuele Lulli, who is reportedly close to a new long-term contract, Gasperini expressed happiness for the player, stating he “deserves everything he’s getting.” He also mentioned that Roma has four capable players in that position, including Rensch, Wesley, and Molina, all of whom are performing well.
