Bayern Munich have announced their squad for the upcoming Champions League clash against Atletico Madrid, with positive news regarding the availability of key players Manuel Neuer and Michael Olise. Both players have been included in the travelling party to Spain despite recent injury concerns.
Veteran goalkeeper Neuer has been sidelined for Bayern’s last three matches due to a foot problem. Meanwhile, winger Michael Olise picked up a knock during the recent 2-2 Bundesliga draw against Borussia Dortmund, forcing him off the pitch. However, both players participated in Bayern’s final training session ahead of the Atletico fixture, suggesting they could potentially feature in Tuesday’s encounter. Olise was noted to have trained with his right knee bandaged.
Bayern’s Injury Absentees
While Neuer and Olise offer a boost, Bayern Munich will still be without several important players. Midfielder Ismael Saibari and forward Serge Gnabry are unavailable, having sustained more serious injuries during the Dortmund match. Both are expected to face longer spells on the sidelines.
Additionally, Luis Diaz, Jamal Musiala, and Bara Sapoko Ndiaye remain unavailable for selection. Assistant coach Aaron Danks will continue to deputise for head coach Vincent Kompany, who is currently absent.
Atletico Madrid’s Team News and Home Advantage
Their opponents, Atletico Madrid, also face selection challenges. Midfielder Morten Hjulmand is suspended for the Champions League fixture. Furthermore, Johnny Cardoso, who is dealing with a thigh issue, and captain Koke, who has a muscle problem, are both listed as doubts for the match.
Diego Simeone’s side will host Bayern at the Wanda Metropolitano, a venue where they boast a formidable record. Atletico have been particularly strong at home, remaining unbeaten there since May of last season. Their last Bundesliga match saw Bayern draw 2-2 with Borussia Dortmund, setting the stage for a challenging European away trip.
