Monaco forward Folarin Balogun has been included in the club’s UEFA Conference League squad, marking a significant step in his return to full fitness and form. The 25-year-old USMNT international replaces Ansu Fati and is now eligible to feature in upcoming European fixtures, including the match against Nordsjaelland.

Return to Action and European Inclusion

Balogun’s inclusion comes after a period of challenges, including an injury sustained at the FIFA World Cup and a knee injury that caused him to miss the start of the current season. He was initially omitted from Monaco’s Conference League squad due to these setbacks. However, his recent return to the pitch has been positive, culminating in his first goal since coming back in a 3-1 loss to Paris FC.

Monaco manager Filipe Luís highlighted Balogun’s improved training performances as a key factor in his return to the squad. Luís noted that Balogun has been training “fantastically in the last couple of weeks” and that his form has “improved a lot.”

Manager’s Confidence and Future Impact

Luís expressed confidence in Balogun’s abilities, describing him as a “top player” who is “very dangerous attacking the space” and “very strong.” The manager believes that participation in the Conference League will be crucial for Balogun to regain his match fitness and confidence, stating it will help him “regain his form, but also help the team with what we need.”

The manager also acknowledged the difficulties Balogun has faced since the World Cup, including an aborted move to Everton on transfer deadline day, which Luís described as a “considerable distraction.” Despite these challenges, Balogun had a productive previous season for Monaco, scoring 19 goals in 43 games across all competitions.

Balogun’s return to the European squad is expected to provide Monaco with an additional attacking option as they navigate their Conference League campaign, offering him the opportunity to build on his recent goal and contribute to the team’s objectives.
