Palace Eye European Progress Against Hoffenheim

Crystal Palace are set to host TSG Hoffenheim in a crucial Europa League encounter, a match that will see the Eagles face a German club in competitive action for the very first time. The fixture pits the Europa Conference League winners against a Hoffenheim side looking to solidify their position in the group.

Hoffenheim arrive in England with inconsistent form, having recently lost to Werder Bremen in the Bundesliga and exited the cup competition at the hands of Holstein Kiel. However, the Sinsheim club did end a two-game losing streak in Europe with a commanding victory over Lyon a fortnight ago, a result that will boost their confidence ahead of this tie. They are yet to secure qualification for the knockout stages of the competition.

Team News and Form

Crystal Palace will be without Jean-Philippe Mateta, who was sent off in their last Premier League game, a 2-0 defeat to Tottenham Hotspur. Despite this domestic setback, Mateta found the net in Palace’s 2-2 draw against Besiktas on Matchday 3 of the Europa League and will be hoping to contribute in Europe once more. Former Bundesliga players Daichi Kamada and Chris Richards, who previously had loan spells at Hoffenheim from Bayern Munich, are expected to feature in the starting lineup. The hosts could also receive a boost with Jorgen Strand Larsen and Quinten Timber hoping to pass late fitness tests.

TSG Hoffenheim face a number of absences for their trip to Selhurst Park. Vladimir Coufal is sidelined with a muscular injury, while highly-rated youngsters Nathan De Cat and Bambase Conte are unavailable. Defenders Robin Hranac and Valentin Gendrey are also out, alongside Patrick Wimmer and Albian Hajdari, who have been missing since October’s international break. Alexander Prass returns after serving a suspension in the Bundesliga and is in good goal-scoring form, as is the club’s all-time top scorer Andrej Kramaric, who was involved in all three goals against Lyon.

Predicted Lineups

Crystal Palace: Benitez; Canvot, Disasi, Richards; Mitchell, Wharton (C), Kamada, Chilwell; Pino, Nketiah; Mateta

TSG Hoffenheim: Baumann (C); Abraha, Kabak, Machida, Rots; Avdullahu, Burger; Daghim, Kramaric, Prass; Asllani

This match presents a significant challenge for both sides, with Palace aiming to continue their European journey and Hoffenheim seeking to overcome their historical struggles against English opposition, having lost all five previous encounters with clubs from England.
