  • FC Bayern Munich have rejected Konrad Laimer’s request for a salary increase to €15 million per year.
  • The German champions may sell the Austrian international this summer rather than meet his financial demands.
  • Laimer claims he feels undervalued and says contract discussions with the club have stalled.

Austrian midfielder Konrad Laimer faces an uncertain future at FC Bayern Munich. His current contract expires in just over 12 months. Talks over a new deal have stopped because of a dispute about wages.

The 27-year-old currently earns around €9 million each year. He wants this figure to rise to between €12 million and €15 million. However, the Bavarian club refuse to pay this amount.

German newspaper Bild reports that Bayern want to “set an example”. The club has given expensive contracts to other players in recent seasons. Now they want to draw a “clear red line” to control their spending on player wages.

Laimer plays regularly in the centre of midfield. Despite this, the club could sell him during the summer transfer window if he does not agree to a new deal before then.

Last month, the player spoke about his situation in an interview with Austrian television channel ServusTV. He said that a new contract shows respect for a player’s work. “It is always about appreciation. The club should recognise what you have done in past years,” he explained.

He also claimed that the two sides have not spoken much. “We had one short conversation. After that, there was nothing more. The newspapers have written many things that are not true,” he added.
