Real Madrid are dealing with a major crisis after two of their star midfielders were involved in a violent confrontation at the training ground. Federico Valverde and Aurelien Tchouameni came to blows on Thursday, resulting in the Uruguayan international being taken to hospital with a serious head injury.
The trouble started a day earlier when the pair had a fierce argument during training. Club staff had to separate them in the dressing room on Wednesday. However, the peace did not last. Valverde reportedly refused to shake hands with the Frenchman the next morning. This act sparked the second, more serious conflict.
According to Spanish newspaper Diario AS, the situation worsened when Valverde accused his teammate of speaking to the media about their private dispute. Tchouameni denied these claims, insisting he had no contact with reporters. Despite this, Valverde kept pressing the issue. The argument moved from the changing room onto the training pitch.
During the session, both players made aggressive tackles on each other. Coach Alvaro Arbeloa did not stop the hostility. After training finished, Valverde continued to confront Tchouameni back in the dressing room. The Frenchman felt trapped and asked his colleague to stop, warning that he was going too far. When Valverde refused to back down, Tchouameni struck him.
The punch knocked Valverde to the floor, where he hit his head on a table. The impact caused a deep cut that needed stitches. RMC Sport reports that the midfielder was briefly unconscious. He left the facility in a wheelchair, feeling dizzy and unwell.
The club is now investigating the incident. General Manager Jose Angel Sanchez held an emergency meeting at the training complex to calm the situation. Real Madrid may suspend both players for their behaviour. There are also reports that the club could sell one of them during the summer transfer window. For now, neither player will take part in the upcoming El Clasico against Barcelona.
