Serie A Week 36 delivered tense action on Saturday as champions FC Internazionale Milano travelled to the Stadio Olimpico to face SS Lazio. Meanwhile, US Lecce hosted Juventus FC in a vital clash that could decide relegation and European qualification.

The action in Rome kicked off at 18:00 local time. This fixture served as a preview of Wednesday’s Coppa Italia final between the same two clubs. Inter took an early lead when Henrikh Mkhitaryan fired a powerful shot into the roof of the net after a clever setup by Bonny.

Lazio’s task became much harder when centre-back Alessio Romagnoli was shown a straight red card. The referee made the decision after a VAR review showed Romagnoli’s studs-up tackle on Bonny was dangerously high. The defender will now miss next week’s crucial Rome derby against AS Roma due to suspension.

Despite having only ten men, Lazio created several chances. Gustav Isaksen forced a fine save from goalkeeper Josep Martinez and later missed a close-range volley. However, Inter controlled the match and doubled their lead when substitute Petar Sučić finished off an excellent team move.

In Lecce, the home side wore special kits bearing their mothers’ names to celebrate Mother’s Day. They desperately need points to avoid the drop, while Juventus aim to secure Champions League qualification. Both sides made key changes during the match, with Inter giving a debut to young Mattia Mosconi from their youth academy.

The results leave Lazio facing a difficult end to the season without their suspended captain, while Lecce’s battle for survival continues.
