Joachim Löw has cast serious doubt on his return to football management. The former Germany boss believes a comeback to the dugout is “rather unlikely” after five years away from the sport.

Löw, who led Germany to World Cup glory in 2014, stepped down from his role with the national team following Euro 2020. The tournament took place in 2021 due to delays caused by the pandemic.

Speaking to journalists in Berlin on Monday, the 65-year-old explained that he has received several offers since leaving his post. However, none of these opportunities have sparked enough interest for him to take charge again.

He revealed that he currently lacks the necessary passion for the role. “You absolutely need that inner fire if you want to be a coach,” he stated. He pointed out that he has now been away from the game for quite a few years.

He also expressed concerns about his ability to meet the physical and mental demands of modern management. He questioned whether he still possesses the energy to push a team forward constantly. “A coach needs that drive,” he added.

Löw noted that football tactics and styles are changing rapidly. He questioned whether his methods would still work in today’s game. “I am not even sure if everything I say is still correct,” he admitted.

Despite these doubts, the World Cup-winning manager did not rule out a return entirely. He kept a small possibility open for the future. He suggested that a truly exciting opportunity might tempt him back into the dugout.
