Jamal Musiala has spoken honestly about his fight to get fully fit. The Bayern Munich attacker admits he is not yet back to his best after a serious ankle injury.

The Germany international hurt his ankle at last summer’s Club World Cup. He came back to the team in January after many months out. Since his return, the 23-year-old has had both good games and bad games.

Talking to Sky Germany, Musiala said these ups and downs are normal. “I have played well in some matches, but not in others,” he said. “This is completely normal after a long injury.”

The young midfielder said he is happy with his recovery. He knows his game is not yet as strong as last season. However, he feels good when he looks at how far he has come since January.

Musiala admitted that waiting has been hard. He wants to play at his old level straight away. But he knows that getting better takes time.

“Sometimes you can see I am still not fully there,” he added. “But I am very happy with the help I get. I want to keep looking forward.”

Musiala has two more games for Bayern this season. First, he will play against 1. FC Köln in the Bundesliga on Saturday. Then he will face VfB Stuttgart in the DFB-Pokal final in Berlin on May 23. After these club games, he will join the Germany national team.
