Former Germany captain Lothar Matthäus has advised Bayern Munich to stick with their aggressive, front-footed tactics next term. The Bundesliga giants fell short in the Champions League semi-finals this campaign. However, Matthäus believes they should not change their style of play.

The ex-midfield star, who played for both Bayern and Inter Milan, shared his views with RTL television. He admitted that an attacking mindset means you cannot stop every goal. “With an attacking style of play, you obviously can’t defend everything,” he stated.

Matthäus pointed out that Bayern have conceded plenty of goals this season. Yet he highlighted their overall success. The Bavarian club is near to securing a domestic double. They also reached the last four of Europe’s top club competition.

The 1990 World Cup winner noted that Bayern did not play well in the second leg versus Paris Saint-Germain. Still, he praised their exciting displays across the year. “I wouldn’t deviate from this approach if I were Bayern coach,” he declared.

The former midfielder explained why he enjoys watching the current Bayern side. He said he looks forward to every match because they guarantee goals and drama. “FC Bayern stands for spectacle,” Matthäus added. He feels the team has proven this throughout the current season.
