  • Bayern Munich have confirmed goalkeeper Alexander Nübel is surplus to requirements.
  • The 29-year-old spent the last three campaigns on loan at VfB Stuttgart.
  • Christoph Freund says the club will stick with Manuel Neuer, Jonas Urbig and Sven Ulreich.
  • Nübel has played only four matches for Bayern since arriving in 2020.

Bayern Munich have officially ended their association with Alexander Nübel. The German goalkeeper has been told he does not feature in the club’s plans for the upcoming season.

Christoph Freund, the sporting director at the Bavarian giants, revealed this news to Sport1 on Saturday. He explained that discussions had taken place with the player’s representatives.

“We held talks with his agents, and Alex is aware of our strategy,” Freund stated.

The decision follows five years of loan moves for the 29-year-old shot-stopper. Nübel joined Bayern from Schalke 04 in 2020 but has spent the majority of his time elsewhere. He enjoyed two seasons with Monaco in France before completing a three-year stint at Stuttgart.

During his entire spell at the Allianz Arena, the keeper has managed just four first-team appearances.

Freund confirmed that the club is satisfied with their current goalkeeping department. Manuel Neuer remains the first choice, supported by Jonas Urbig and experienced backup Sven Ulreich.

“We will start next season with these three keepers. That is our plan,” Freund added.
