Rasmus Hojlund has officially ended his stay at Manchester United. The Danish forward has confirmed that his transfer to Napoli is now permanent. This happened because the Italian club secured a place in next season’s Champions League.

The 22-year-old scored during Napoli’s 3-0 win over Pisa in Serie A on Sunday. This result confirmed that Antonio Conte’s side will compete in Europe’s top competition next term. Because of this achievement, the obligation to buy clause in Hojlund’s contract has been triggered.

Hojlund joined Napoli on loan last summer. The deal included a fee of €6 million for the temporary switch. It also contained a €44 million option to make the move permanent. These conditions have now been met.

The player shared his thoughts on social media. He described the moment as strange but also emotional. He thanked Manchester United fans for helping him fulfil his childhood dream of playing at Old Trafford.

“For the past year, I have felt like a Napoli player,” Hojlund wrote on Instagram. “But saying goodbye to United is emotional. Wearing the red shirt at Old Trafford was my dream as a child. Now it is time for new dreams.”

Hojlund has enjoyed a productive season in Italy. He has found the net 11 times in 32 Serie A matches. He has also provided six assists for his teammates. In the Champions League, he scored three goals in seven outings. He also netted once in the Supercoppa Italiana.
