Hamburger SV have secured the services of Daniel Heuer Fernandes until 2027. The 33-year-old goalkeeper has signed a fresh two-year agreement with the German second-tier side.

The Portugal-born keeper faced an uncertain future at the Volksparkstadion earlier this year. Discussions between the player and the Hamburg outfit hit a snag several weeks ago. Both parties held different views on salary terms, which delayed the announcement.

Media reports once linked Heuer Fernandes with a sensational switch to Bayern Munich. The Bavarian giants had considered him as a candidate to succeed veteran Manuel Neuer. However, those plans collapsed when the 40-year-old Germany international extended his stay at the Allianz Arena.

Meanwhile, young talent Sander Tangvik will continue as the experienced goalkeeper’s understudy. The 23-year-old Norwegian impressed during the final match of the campaign against Bayer Leverkusen. He denied a spot-kick during that rare appearance and will serve as backup throughout the upcoming season.
