Hakan Safi, who is campaigning to become the next president of Fenerbahçe, has confirmed that he held talks with Italian football legend Paolo Maldini. The businessman revealed that they met to discuss a new role at the Turkish giants.
The club will soon hold an election for its new president. Safi and other candidates are working hard to win votes from supporters after the team recently lost the league championship to their biggest rivals, Galatasaray. He shared the details during a podcast interview while travelling on his private jet.
Safi stated that Maldini would serve as the club’s global football advisor. He described him as an ambassador for the sport. “We will do beautiful things together,” Safi promised. He added that Maldini’s knowledge would help the club with future transfers.
Maldini played his entire career for AC Milan. He has previously stated that he would not work for any other Italian club. However, he might consider offers from teams that play outside of Italy.
The 56-year-old already owns shares in Miami FC, a club in the United States. He bought into that team in 2015. He worked as the technical director at Milan between 2019 and 2023.
