Bologna FC 1909 have commenced their hunt for a new manager after parting ways with Vincenzo Italiano. The Serie A side confirmed on Thursday that the Italian tactician has ended his two-year spell at the Stadio Renato Dall’Ara.
Italiano arrived at the club to replace Thiago Motta ahead of their return to the Champions League last season. During his first campaign in charge, he guided the Rossoblu to Coppa Italia glory. This victory secured the club a place in the upcoming Europa League tournament.
However, the 2024-25 league campaign ended in disappointment. Bologna finished eighth in the table, falling three points short of the European qualification places through their Serie A position. Despite this, the team will still compete in continental competitions next term thanks to their cup success.
The 51-year-old had been strongly linked with the managerial position at Napoli following Antonio Conte’s departure. However, Napoli president Aurelio De Laurentiis has reportedly agreed a two-year deal with Massimiliano Allegri instead.
According to transfer expert Gianluca Di Marzio, Bologna have now turned their attention to two primary targets. Eusebio Di Francesco, currently in charge of US Lecce, and former RB Leipzig manager Domenico Tedesco, who recently left Turkish giants Fenerbahce, are the leading candidates to take over the dugout.
