Hamburger SV have joined Germany’s biggest football clubs after reaching 150,000 members this week. The club announced the news on Thursday. This is a big jump from October 2023, when they had 100,000 members whilst playing in the 2. Bundesliga.

Only five German clubs have more members than Hamburg. FC Bayern Munich top the list with 432,500 fans. Borussia Dortmund have 238,109 members, Schalke 04 have 220,000, and both Köln and Eintracht Frankfurt have 160,000. VfB Stuttgart and Borussia Mönchengladbach also have over 100,000 members. SC Freiburg recently reached 80,000.

The club put a special message on the Elbe River to celebrate. This river connects Hamburg to the North Sea. Club president Henrik Köncke spoke about the achievement. “This number shows how much HSV means to people in Hamburg and other places,” he said. “We are one of the strongest communities in German sport.”

Board member Eric Huwer also shared his thoughts. “This success did not happen by chance. This is what HSV is about,” he explained. “Our club brings different generations together at the stadium, in sports programmes, and across the city. Our supporters are our biggest strength.”
