Next week marks a significant moment for Real Madrid. Florentino Perez will compete in his first presidential election for twenty years. The 79-year-old has led the club since 2009 without facing any opponents. This time, he will stand against Enrique Riquelme at the ballot.
Speaking to the media, Perez addressed several urgent issues. The club currently needs a new manager after Alvaro Arbeloa left his position. Many supporters believe Jose Mourinho will return to the Bernabeu. However, Perez explained that no official offer has been made yet. He admitted he is considering two possible candidates for the role.
“I am thinking about the new coach, yes. I have one name… and two. Mourinho is clearly a good coach. I will not announce it now because I have not spoken to him yet,” Perez stated.
The president also discussed Vinicius Junior. The Brazilian winger’s current contract ends in 2027. No new agreement has been reached so far. Perez expressed his personal wish for the player to remain at the club.
“I do not know what will happen. If you ask my opinion, I want him to continue. He is one of the best players in the world,” Perez said.
The most dramatic comments concerned the Negreira case. Perez confirmed he will attend the Champions League final between Paris Saint-Germain and Arsenal this weekend. UEFA president Aleksander Ceferin invited him to the match. During this meeting, Perez intends to present a detailed report about historical referee payments involving Barcelona.
“I am going to pursue this to death. Anyone who thinks I have forgotten is wrong. This weekend I will attend the Champions League final. The UEFA president invited me. I will tell him that when the season finishes, I will give him a dossier. We have prepared it for three years. This is the biggest corruption case in the history of football,” Perez declared firmly.
