- The Argentina international’s release clause stands at €500 million
- Manager Diego Simeone recently suggested the player has already decided his future
Spanish club Atlético Madrid have strongly denied recent reports suggesting that FC Barcelona made a formal offer for forward Julián Álvarez. The stories claimed that the Catalan giants had submitted a bid worth €100 million for the Argentina international.
However, officials at Atlético have dismissed these claims completely. They describe the reports as false information and insist that no such proposal has arrived. The Madrid-based team released a statement calling the speculation “just another lie” regarding the player’s situation.
The club highlights that Álvarez remains under contract until the year 2030. His current deal includes a release clause set at €500 million. This figure reflects his importance to the squad and their desire to keep him.
Club captain Koke Resurrección has also spoken about the matter. He explained that he has been away on holiday and disconnected from his phone. The midfielder stated clearly that Álvarez is an Atlético player with a long contract and a high release fee.
Recent speculation suggested that Álvarez wanted to leave and preferred a move to Barcelona. Some reports indicated that the player had informed the club of his desire to depart this summer. However, team officials maintain that the striker is not for sale.
Earlier this season, Álvarez gave interviews that created uncertainty about his future. On two separate occasions, he declined to confirm whether he would remain at the Metropolitano stadium next season. Manager Diego Simeone also suggested recently that the player had already decided his future plans.
Despite these mixed signals, Atlético continue to insist that their star attacker will stay with the club for the upcoming campaign.
