Nairobi Governor Johnson Sakaja has revealed an ambitious plan to build a modern stadium for Nairobi United. The county boss, who owns the football club, wants to create Kenya’s version of Arsenal.
Sakaja spoke during the club’s end-of-season awards night on Thursday. He said the new ground will be a private facility, not a county project. It will include a world-class gym and other modern features.
“This is a 30-year plan to turn Nairobi United into a club with the stature of Arsenal,” Sakaja stated. He added, “Lazima itawork (it must work).”
The governor also gave updates on a team bus. President William Ruto had promised Nairobi United a Marco Polo bus worth Ksh 35 million. Sakaja confirmed the vehicle is on its way to the club.
Nairobi United have enjoyed a successful first season in the FKF Premier League. The team reached the group stage of the CAF Confederations Cup. They currently sit fifth in the league table with 50 points from 33 games.
The club will face champions-elect Gor Mahia in their final match of the 2025/26 season on Sunday evening.
