Scotland manager Steve Clarke says he is very worried about Billy Gilmour. The midfielder got injured during the team’s warm-up match for the World Cup.

Gilmour fell to the ground with no other player near him in the first half. The 24-year-old player from Napoli left the pitch straight away. Scotland won the game 4-1 at Hampden Park.

Clarke told reporters he is praying that the player gets better soon. “I am 100 per cent worried,” said the manager. Gilmour went for a scan after the match to check the injury.

The problem comes just two weeks before Scotland’s first World Cup game. They will play Haiti in Boston on June 14. Clarke hopes the doctors will give good news soon.

Scotland started badly against Curacao. Tahith Chong scored to put the visitors ahead. But then Jurgen Locadia got a red card before half-time. This changed the match.

Findlay Curtis came on to replace the injured Gilmour. The substitute scored his first goal for Scotland to make it 1-1. Lawrence Shankland scored two goals, and Ryan Christie scored a penalty.

Clarke said the red card made the game less useful for practice. “It would have been better with eleven players against eleven,” he said. He wanted his team to play against a full team to test their plans properly.

The Scotland team will now fly to America for the tournament. Fans are waiting for news about Gilmour. Clarke hopes the midfielder can travel with the squad.
