Manchester City Women have secured a historic domestic double following a convincing 4-0 victory over Brighton in the Women’s FA Cup final at Wembley Stadium.

The triumph completes a brilliant first campaign for manager Andree Jeglertz. His team had already claimed the Women’s Super League crown earlier this month. They sealed that title after Brighton held Arsenal to a draw, which proved decisive. This is the first time the club has achieved this double since 2016.

City returned to Wembley for the first time since their 2022 final defeat against Chelsea. Meanwhile, Brighton wrote a new chapter in their history book by reaching their first-ever major final.

Brighton started the match with energy and threatened to cause a shock. Kiko Seike caused problems with her pace down the right flank and fired one powerful shot over the crossbar. However, once City found their rhythm, they took complete control.

WSL Golden Boot winner Khadija Shaw broke the deadlock with a close-range header from Alex Greenwood’s delivery. Brighton appealed for a VAR check when goalkeeper Chiamaka Nnadozie went down, but the officials ruled she did not have possession before Shaw scored.

City captain Alex Greenwood then doubled the advantage with a clever low free-kick that squeezed past Nnadozie at the near post. The Seagulls goalkeeper will feel disappointed with both goals.

The second half was more subdued as City managed their lead. They added a superb third goal when Shaw and Vivianne Miedema set up Aoba Fujino, who curled a beautiful shot into the net. Vivianne Miedema sealed the win late on with a brilliant header. Remarkably, this marks her first FA Cup triumph after finishing as runner-up twice during her time at Arsenal.

The victory crowns an outstanding first season in charge for Jeglertz. It is also City’s first FA Cup success since 2020. Alex Greenwood earned the player of the match award for her commanding performance. There was also a special moment for Miedema, who recently missed fixtures for personal reasons. Her goal provided the perfect end to another excellent campaign.

For Brighton, the heavy defeat brings disappointment. They had beaten City 3-2 in a recent league match and will feel frustrated not to have tested the champions more severely. Nevertheless, this remains a landmark occasion for the Seagulls, who continue to improve every season and enjoy strong backing from their club.
