- Scotland fans are angry that Udinese teenager Lennon Miller was not selected for the World Cup squad
- Supporters compare Miller’s 26 club appearances to Manchester United youngster Fletcher’s 17 minutes on the pitch this season
Scotland supporters are furious after learning that Billy Gilmour’s injury could be more severe than first feared. The Napoli midfielder walked off the pitch hurt during his country’s 4-1 friendly win over Curacao yesterday. This has caused major problems for the team’s preparations for the 2026 World Cup in North America.
Medical checks later that night revealed bad news. The knee problem is serious. Doctors say he cannot play in the tournament. Now, Italian newspaper Il Mattino reports that Napoli fear worse damage. They worry he has hurt his collateral ligament. Doctors cannot confirm this until the swelling from the sprain goes down.
If this is true, the teenager may not play for two to three months.
Fans also think Lennon Miller should have been on the plane to America instead of other players. The Udinese midfielder is also 19 years old. He played 26 matches for his club this season. Miller scored once and made two goals for his team-mates. He started 10 games in both Serie A and the Coppa Italia.
On the other hand, the Manchester United youngster only played twice in the Premier League. He was a substitute both times. He only spent 17 minutes on the pitch in total. Supporters believe Miller deserved the place based on these numbers.
