  • Current PSG keeper Lucas Chevalier is unhappy as a back-up and wants to leave the club.
  • Chevalier joined from Lille OSC last summer but lost his place to Matvey Safonov after a series of errors.
  • The 26-year-old Portugal international Costa is under contract with Porto until 2030.

Paris Saint-Germain are planning major changes between the posts. The reigning Champions League holders have set their sights on FC Porto shot-stopper Diogo Costa. This move comes as current squad member Lucas Chevalier looks set to depart the Parc des Princes.

Chevalier joined PSG from Lille OSC last summer. However, the Frenchman has failed to impress during his first months in the capital. He made several costly mistakes at the start of the campaign. As a result, manager Luis Enrique dropped him in favour of Matvey Safonov in January. The Russian has kept his spot since then. Despite this, club insiders do not view him as the long-term solution.

The 23-year-old Chevalier refuses to stay as a reserve player. He wants regular first-team football. This stance has forced the French champions to search for alternatives. Costa, who is 26 years old, has now emerged as the top target. The Portugal international still has a lengthy contract with Porto. It runs until the year 2030.

PSG lifted the European trophy again this past Saturday. Now they hope to secure Costa’s signature to settle their goalkeeper concerns ahead of next season.
