Canada’s World Cup campaign has suffered an early blow. Star defender Alphonso Davies will miss the team’s opening fixture against Bosnia and Herzegovina on June 12.
The Bayern Munich left-back confirmed he remains sidelined with a hamstring strain. He sustained the injury while representing the German club last month.
“The first game is impossible for me,” Davies stated on the Sid Seixeiro Show. “It hurts to say this, but that is the reality when you are injured.”
The 23-year-old expressed his disappointment at missing the clash. “I desperately want to play at the World Cup. I want to perform in front of my family and help my country.”
Canada still face Qatar on June 18 and Switzerland on June 24 in their remaining group matches. Davies hopes to recover in time for these fixtures, though his availability remains doubtful.
