Tottenham Hotspur have reached an agreement to sign Kirsty Hanson from Aston Villa. The Scotland forward emerges as a major coup for the North London club following an exceptional campaign in the Women’s Super League.

Hanson, aged 28, established herself as one of the division’s most lethal attackers last term. She found the net 12 times across 22 league fixtures, placing her third in the golden boot race behind only Khadija Shaw and Alessia Russo. Her outstanding displays earned her Aston Villa’s Player of the Year accolade alongside the WSL Goal of the Season prize for her spectacular effort against West Ham United.

The transfer comes after months of speculation. BBC Sport first revealed Tottenham’s interest in May, and the club have now successfully negotiated a deal with Villa. Personal terms are currently being finalized ahead of the player’s official arrival this month.

The switch marks a reunion with Spurs manager Martin Ho. The pair previously worked together during Hanson’s time at Manchester United, where Ho served as assistant coach. This familiarity could prove crucial as Tottenham aim to build upon their fifth-place finish in the 2025-26 season.

Despite having one year remaining on her contract at Villa Park, Hanson departs with the club’s blessing. The exact transfer fee remains undisclosed. She brings considerable international experience too, having scored five goals in 44 appearances for Scotland.

Hanson becomes the latest addition to Ho’s squad this summer. Tottenham have already secured West Ham forward Shekiera Martinez and Dutch defender Caitlin Dijkstra as they prepare for the new campaign.
