Kylian Mbappé has revealed he is open to ending his playing career in Major League Soccer, disclosing that David Beckham regularly asks about a potential move to the United States. The France captain made the comments during a press conference in Philadelphia on Monday, ahead of his side’s World Cup group stage match against Iraq.
Speaking at the media briefing, Mbappé suggested that the American league appeals to him as a destination for the latter stages of his career. He highlighted the cultural differences between European and North American sport as a key attraction, noting the ambitious environment in the United States.
Beckham’s Lobbying
Beckham has emerged as a persistent advocate for Mbappé’s transfer across the Atlantic. The France captain revealed that Beckham frequently raises the possibility of a switch.
“Why would I move here? I don’t know. David Beckham often asks me whether I want to come to the United States, but I don’t know. Maybe one day, we’ll see,” Mbappé said.
He expanded on his interest in the country: “It’s a country with a different culture compared to ours in Europe, and I’ve always liked it. There’s no limits on ambition, there’s no fear of saying what you want to do and what you can do. It doesn’t work everywhere, but here it does.”
No Coaching Plans
Mbappé also moved to quash speculation that he is preparing for a future in management. The topic arose after the player was spotted observing France’s training session from a scaffolding platform earlier in the week, prompting suggestions he was studying tactics for a coaching career.
Addressing the incident, Mbappé insisted his presence on the platform reflected a desire to learn rather than any coaching ambitions. “I’m not necessarily thinking about becoming a coach, I’m just a lover of the game. I like to understand the match that I’m watching, and I like to learn. When your life revolves around something, it’s important to understand it. I try to understand every little detail,” he explained.
France face Iraq in Philadelphia on Monday as they continue their World Cup campaign. Mbappé is expected to captain the side in the group stage encounter.
