Werder Bremen head of first team football Peter Niemeyer has confirmed that winger Samuel Mbangula is attracting interest from other clubs, though he insists no formal offers have been tabled.

Speaking to the club-affiliated outlet DeichStube, Niemeyer acknowledged that the 22-year-old Belgian is drawing attention due to his “exciting profile”. The 42-year-old official noted that Mbangula’s name is “definitely being mentioned in the market” among potential transfer targets, highlighting how his reputation continues to attract notice despite limited game time in Germany.

From Turin to the Weser

Mbangula completed a €10 million switch from Juventus to the Bundesliga side last summer. The move represented a significant financial outlay for Werder Bremen, who secured the Belgian youth international following his departure from the Italian giants.

However, since arriving at the Weser-Stadion, the winger has struggled to secure regular playing time. He has rarely had the opportunity to demonstrate his abilities in full measure during his debut campaign, finding himself on the periphery of the first team for much of the season.

Agent opens door to move

Speculation regarding Mbangula’s future intensified approximately one month ago when his representative, Grace Diamouangana, indicated that they would consider another transfer if suitable circumstances presented themselves. This public openness to a change of scenery aligned with the player’s difficulties in establishing himself within the squad.

The agent’s comments suggested that the €10 million investment might be cut short if the winger cannot secure a more prominent role, placing pressure on all parties to find a resolution that benefits the player’s development.

Current status and next steps

Despite the circulating interest and the agent’s previous remarks, Niemeyer has downplayed the likelihood of an imminent departure. He confirmed that “no concrete offers” have been received for the Belgian or any other squad member, meaning the club does not currently face proposals requiring serious consideration.

Consequently, Werder Bremen is continuing with normal pre-season preparations involving Mbangula. For the club, retaining the Belgian would provide additional depth in wide areas, yet allowing him to leave could free up resources for other targets.

The coming weeks will prove crucial for the former Juventus prospect. With his agent previously receptive to a move and the club acknowledging genuine market interest, Mbangula faces a decisive period in determining whether he can force his way into regular contention or necessitate a transfer to reignite his career elsewhere.
