Provisional tie: Ecuador and Ghana are level on points, goal difference and goals scored, so they are shown provisionally as joint third. Their exact order depends on team conduct score and, if they remain level, the latest FIFA Men's World Ranking. Both teams have qualified, so this tie does not affect the eighth-place cutoff. Senegal take the final qualifying place in eighth, while Iran finish ninth because Senegal have the superior goal difference.

How the qualification line works

There are 12 third-place teams across the World Cup groups, but only eight can advance to the Round of 32. The team ranked eighth occupies the final provisional qualifying position, while the team ranked ninth is the first team currently outside the knockout stage.

  1. Points

Teams are first ranked by the total number of points earned across their three group matches.

  2. Goal difference

If teams have the same number of points, the team with the better overall goal difference is ranked higher.

  3. Goals scored

If the teams are still level, the team that has scored more goals across all group matches takes the higher position.

  4. Team conduct score

Yellow and red cards received by players and team officials are used to calculate the team conduct score.

  5. FIFA World Ranking

If the teams remain level after all previous criteria, their order is decided using the most recently published FIFA Men's World Ranking.

What does the qualification line mean?

The red qualification line separates eighth and ninth place. Teams above the line are currently in a Round of 32 position. Teams below it need their own results, or results elsewhere in the tournament, to move into the top eight.

The table is provisional. A team's position can change after every group match, even when that team is not playing. Qualification is only confirmed when the relevant group results and cross-group comparisons are final.
