Inter Milan have turned their attention to Roma’s Wesley and Fluminense’s Guga as they seek to rebuild their right flank following a double defensive exodus. The Serie A side lost Marco Palestra to Chelsea and saw Denzel Dumfries depart for Real Madrid, leaving the Nerazzurri with urgent recruitment needs and approximately €70m in available funds.
The club had earmarked Palestra as their primary target and set aside €50m for the 21-year-old Italy international. However, Atalanta have agreed a deal exceeding €50m with Chelsea for the versatile defender, with the transfer potentially rising to €60m including bonuses. Palestra is expected to sign a five or six-year contract worth €30m in wages.
Compounding Inter’s defensive headache, Real Madrid triggered Dumfries’ €20m release clause earlier this month to secure the Dutch wing-back. The departure of their established starter leaves manager Simone Inzaghi without a natural right-sided option.
Brazilian and Italian options emerge
According to La Gazzetta dello Sport, Inter have added Roma’s Wesley to their shortlist. The Brazilian has impressed as a versatile full-back, though any deal faces significant obstacles. Roma must sell players by the end of June to satisfy Financial Fair Play settlement agreements with UEFA. However, manager Gian Piero Gasperini regards the 25-year-old as unsellable, particularly with the Giallorossi returning to the Champions League.
Another Brazilian, 27-year-old Guga from Fluminense, has also been offered to the San Siro outfit. The defender holds a Portuguese passport, meaning he would not occupy one of Inter’s limited non-EU registration slots.
The club are also considering “luxury” alternatives valued around €40m. Juventus’s Andrea Cambiaso and Nottingham Forest’s Dan Ndoye remain under evaluation, with midfielder Davide Frattesi potentially included in part-exchange negotiations for either player. Fiorentina’s Dodo represents a further domestic option.
Midfield and centre-back contingencies
While prioritising the right wing-back position, Inter are monitoring other opportunities. Corriere dello Sport suggests the club could redirect funds towards Real Madrid’s Nico Paz in a €60m deal, though this would not address their defensive requirements.
At centre-back, Udinese’s Oumar Solet remains the preferred target. Should the Frenchman instead join Atletico Madrid, Inter would turn to Chelsea’s Trevoh Chalobah. The England international is also attracting interest from newly-promoted Como.
