Boca Juniors have made Olympique de Marseille goalkeeper Gerónimo Rulli their top priority for the summer transfer window. The Argentine club are targeting the 34-year-old shot-stopper, who is valued at approximately €9 million by the French side despite having two years remaining on his current deal.

TyC Sports reports that Rulli has already expressed interest in the prospect of joining the Buenos Aires giants. However, securing his signature will prove challenging given the fee involved and competition from abroad.

Financial constraints and English interest

Marseille’s need to reduce their wage bill this summer could work in Boca’s favour during negotiations, potentially making the club more willing to negotiate the €9 million valuation. Nevertheless, Tottenham Hotspur are also monitoring the situation and could submit a rival offer for the former Argentina international.

Should Rulli decide against an immediate return to South America, he may opt to see out the remaining two years of his Marseille contract. This would allow him to join his former club Estudiantes on a free transfer next summer, creating a difficult decision for the keeper.

Alternative targets ready

Boca officials have prepared contingency plans should the Rulli pursuit fail. The club are considering several domestic and regional alternatives, including Lanús captain Nahuel Losada (33), Vélez Sarsfield’s Álvaro Montero (31), and Uruguay international Sergio Rochet (33) at Brazil’s SC Internacional.

Each backup option brings significant experience, suggesting Boca are prioritising proven reliability between the posts rather than investing in younger prospects. The potential transfer represents a significant investment for Boca, who must balance their ambition to sign an established European goalkeeper against the financial realities of the Argentine market.
