PULSER FOOTBALL NEWS-3

Palermo goalkeeper Sebastiano Desplanches has emerged as a summer target for Glasgow Rangers and Norwich City, with the Scottish and English clubs among several sides tracking the 23-year-old’s availability ahead of the new campaign.

According to Sky Sport Italia transfer expert Gianluca Di Marzio, representatives from both British clubs have made approaches to the Sicilian side regarding the shot-stopper. The interest extends beyond the UK, however, as multiple Italian clubs are also closely monitoring developments and could yet enter the race for his services.

From Milan academy to Serie B experience

Desplanches is a product of the Milan youth academy, where he developed through the various age groups before the club sanctioned his permanent departure to Vicenza in 2022. The move marked the beginning of his senior career in the lower leagues, with subsequent stops at Trento and Palermo following in quick succession.

The goalkeeper spent the recent season on loan with Pescara in Serie B, gaining valuable experience in Italy’s second tier. His performances at club level have complemented his international development, having earned 16 caps for the Italy Under-21 side after progressing through the Azzurri’s youth system. His 16 appearances for the Azzurrini demonstrate his standing among Italy’s emerging goalkeeping talents.

Contract status and proposed transfer formula

Despite holding a contract with the Sicilian club that runs until June 2028, Palermo appear willing to consider offers for their young goalkeeper. Sources indicate any departure would likely take the form of an initial loan with an obligation to buy, a structure that would guarantee the Italian side a future fee while allowing the acquiring club to spread their financial commitment.

This arrangement has become increasingly prevalent in cross-border transfers, particularly for young players requiring adaptation periods. With Rangers competing in the Scottish Premiership and Norwich battling for promotion from the English Championship, both clubs could offer Desplanches distinct pathways to regular first-team football.

The goalkeeper’s lengthy contract provides Palermo with significant negotiating leverage, ensuring they can demand favourable terms. As the transfer window progresses, the competition between British and Italian suitors is expected to intensify, with Desplanches facing a decision on whether to test himself abroad or remain within the peninsula.
