Inter Milan have been compelled to redraw their summer transfer strategy after missing out on early targets, turning their attention toward Chelsea defender Trevoh Chalobah and Liverpool midfielder Curtis Jones.

The reshuffle follows Chelsea’s capture of Marco Palestra, who had been close to joining the Nerazzurri before the London club intervened. Sporting director Piero Ausilio retains the same technical priorities—securing a right-sided wing-back, two centre-backs and a midfielder—but must now pursue different names.

Defensive reinforcements

With Francesco Acerbi and Stefan de Vrij both heading for the exit, Inter require significant defensive reconstruction. Chalobah has emerged as a primary objective, though Chelsea are demanding approximately €30 million plus performance-related bonuses.

The England international has featured on Inter’s radar intermittently across three transfer windows and arrives into this window following an impressive domestic campaign and a World Cup call-up. Negotiations with Udinese for Oumar Solet, meanwhile, have cooled considerably, leaving only a narrow possibility of revival.

Midfield valuation hurdles

In midfield, Jones remains Ausilio’s preferred choice to inject fresh energy, particularly if Davide Frattesi departs. However, Liverpool have placed a £35 million valuation on the academy graduate, a figure that has complicated negotiations.

Nottingham Forest have also registered interest in Jones, adding competition while simultaneously monitoring Frattesi’s situation at San Siro. Inter hope the player’s personal ambition to move may yet soften Liverpool’s stance.

Alternatives on the flanks and in goal

At wing-back, Inter have explored a move for Anan Khalaili of Union Saint-Gilloise, but Napoli hold a decisive advantage having already secured an agreement with the Israeli’s representatives. The Belgian club are holding out for at least €25 million, and questions persist over whether Khalaili is prepared to assume Denzel Dumfries’s role immediately.

Between the posts, Inter have reached an agreement in principle with Lazio for goalkeeper Ivan Provedel. The deal, valued at roughly €3 million, serves as an alternative to Josep Martínez and awaits final approval from Lazio president Claudio Lotito.
